Forest Technology

Course Highlight: FORT 274 - Forest Industry Tour

FORT 274 "Forest Industry Tour" (Spring Camp) is a 1 credit required course as well as a long-standing tradition of the Forest Technology Program.  We spend an entire week on the road at the end of the semester visiting Industries large and small, old and new, across the northern forest. From cutting edge research stations like Hubbard Brook to large pulp and paper manufacturing facilities to an old water powered sawmill unchanged since the 1870’s, we feel it is important to see, hear and smell things like the largest "stud mill" in the northeast and the Pittsburg deer yard with a legendary wildlife biologist.  Even the time spent driving can be instructive as the northern forest rolls by. This year we saw bears, moose, deer, turkeys, bald eagles, osprey and ridge tops loaded with wind turbines. The group's free time game of choice...ultimate Frisbee.
