I received a degree in Civil Technology with concentrations in Surveying and Mapping and Construction Management in 2003. The best things about my Thompson School experience were the small class sizes, the hands on learning and being in class with professors that still work actively in their field of knowledge in addition to their teaching. It was rewarding to see that my professors truly loved what they did and enjoyed seeing their students succeed. I also liked that Thompson School was structured but also a relaxed smaller atmosphere.
Thompson School is also great because it’s part of UNH and TSAS students have access to all the amenities that UNH offers like the shuttle buses, the dining halls, the gym, library, student activities and more. Being a part of UNH and Thompson School was amazing because I had so many options. During my free time I could spend it in the middle of everything, the busy campus with other students or I could stay on the quiet TSAS grounds.
Currently I am a Survey Technician and for the past 3 years I have been employed by Richard D. Bartlett & Associates Licensed Land Surveyors in Concord NH. Prior to this position I was employed by a surveying/engineering firm and the NH Department of Transportation. I am a Certified Surveyor in Training (S.I.T.). I passed my exam and received my S.I.T. in March of 2004. I am an affiliate member of the New Hampshire Land Surveyors Association and attend meetings with fellow technicians and Licensed Surveyors.
As you can probably tell, I am immersed and dedicated to my field and I think that the most honest thing I can say about the Thompson School is that my education there prepared me for the real world. TSAS gave me the hands-on experience to jump right into a job. My associate degree was prefect for me because all my classes were directly related toward the job I wanted and the degree I was earning. Thompson School set me on the right path.
My goals for the future include becoming an integral employee in my current position. Having 4 years of experience in the field and just one in the office, I am looking to learn more about the legal aspects and the process behind boundary determinations. I am interested in broadening my experience and want to be able to do even more. Thanks to my start at Thompson School I am looking forward to a long and satisfying career in Surveying.
